From one to many: A deep learning coincident gravitational-wave search

چکیده

Gravitational waves from the coalescence of compact-binary sources are now routinely observed by Earth bound detectors. The most sensitive search algorithms convolve many different precalculated gravitational waveforms with detector data and look for coincident matches between Machine learning is being explored as an alternative approach to building a algorithm that has prospect reduce computational costs target more complex signals. In this work we construct two-detector binary black hole mergers using neural networks trained on nonspinning single detector. network applied both observatories independently check events in time two. This enables efficient analysis large quantities background time-shifting independent data. We find while retains 91.5% sensitivity matched filtering can achieve, number drops 83.9% two observatories. To enable signal consistency detectors, then set simple operate directly none these capable improving over applying individually detectors searching coincidences.

Gravitational Wave Burst Search

We will prepare for, carry out, and report on a search for burst-like events of gravitational wave origin in data to be collected in an Engineering Run that will have coincident data from operating interferometers at both Hanford and Livingston (hereinafter referred to as the Science Analysis Challenge or SAC). By “burst-like events” (hereinafter “bursts”) we refer in the most general sense to ...

Search-based many-to-one component substitution

In this paper, we present a search-based automatic many-to-one component substitution mechanism. When a component is removed from an assembly to overcome component obsolescence, failure or unavailability, most existing systems perform component-tocomponent (one-to-one) substitution. Thus, they only handle situations where a specific candidate component is available. As this is not the most freq...

Search for gravitational-wave bursts from soft gamma repeaters.

We present a LIGO search for short-duration gravitational waves (GWs) associated with soft gamma ray repeater (SGR) bursts. This is the first search sensitive to neutron star f modes, usually considered the most efficient GW emitting modes. We find no evidence of GWs associated with any SGR burst in a sample consisting of the 27 Dec. 2004 giant flare from SGR 1806-20 and 190 lesser events from ...

From one cell to many

embryo undergoes several synchronized nuclear divisions without cytokinesis, to form a 'syncytial blastoderm'. During these divisions, the nuclei migrate to the cortex of the embryo where the last few divisions take place before cellularization. The dividing nuclei at lower right are all synchronized at metaphase. Mitotic spindles are stained red; DNA is stained green. At cellularization, the o...

A learning approach to the detection of gravitational wave transients

We investigate the class of quadratic detectors (i.e., the statistic is a bilinear function of the data) for the detection of poorly modeled gravitational transients of short duration. We point out that all such detection methods are equivalent to passing the signal through a filter bank and linearly combine the output energy. Existing methods for the choice of the filter bank and of the weight...
